Time for another sign in the Sign Series! I made this sign around Easter, although it is now May and I still have it up in my front room. This is a very easy wood sign to make and can be made quickly.
The only wood you need for this is lath. You can buy a whole bundle of lath for about $15. You will only need about 16-17 pieces for this project which means you will only spend about $5 in wood! What a steal right?!
This is an easy wood sign and can be made very quickly! This design is basically a larger version of my “it is well with my soul” which is also a very easy wood sign to try. You can check that out here: It is well with my soul
Supplies:
- 16.5 pieces of 48″ lath strips
- Glue
- Paint
- Sharpie
Tools:
- Saw
- Measuring tape
- Pencil
- Glue gun (depending)
- Sandpaper
Step 1:
Lay out however many lath strips you need for the size of the sign you want. I decided on using 14 pieces, which made my sign about 20″ wide.
Step 2:
Cut back support pieces. Measure the width of your sign and cut 4-5 pieces that length. My back was about 20″, so I cut 5 pieces a little under 20″ long.
Step 3:
Glue on back pieces. I used a hot glue gun to attach my back support pieces. Wood glue would also work. If I was going to hang this up on a wall, wood glue may be a better option, although my hot glue has held up fine.
Step 4:
Paint. I used Annie Sloan Pure White Chalk Paint to paint the front.
Step 5:
Add lettering. For this sign I did something I rarely do, I free-handed the words. I did type out “He is Risen” on the computer and printed it out (not to scale) to have a guide to look at. I wrote it in pencil and then traced over it with a sharpie.
And that is it! Easy!
Update: This year I have this sign on display on my fireplace mantel! I love how it turned out!
Happy Spring and Easter!
Emily
