The kids’ basement playhouse was a project I took on around this time last year. (2021) If you want to know about the start of this project you can read about it in my post here.

As many projects go, it grew out of a different project entirely. I wanted to block access to our furnace and water heater down in our unfinished basement…and from that came an under the stairs playhouse.

It is not a very big space but has still been a fun and entertaining space for the kids to spend time.

Basement playhouse: BEFORE

I don’t have a lot of details or step by step instructions for this project. Kind of winged most of it, but I do share more of the building steps in this post from last year.

I kept the perspective that this is a basement playhouse. It did not need to be perfect.

Added a little curtain to create an even cozier space with cushions and pillows. With most of the elements of this project I tried to use leftover items or materials. The curtain is scrap fabric from a previous project. Used decor/toys we already owned. Not every project needs to be outfitted with everything new.

So glad I decided to add this little inset bookcase. It adds some storage space and is just super cute.

Above the door on the inside is a little inset space where I added string for the kids to clip up art or cards they wanted to keep.

Twinkle lights add a touch of magic to playhouse

Twinkle lights are always a good idea. Makes the space feel cozy. We did add a switched light as well just to make sure there was plenty of light. And if we ever convert it into a storage closet it will be helpful.
